Joseph "Joe" Meagle is a recurring character in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. He is Donna's husband who was first introduced as her ex-boyfriend in the episode "One in 8,000". Joe is an elementary school music teacher. They were married in the year 2017 in the episode "Donna & Joe".

Season 6[]

Joe first appeared in "One in 8,000" when Donna agrees to help Ron volunteer at the local elementary school. Donna tells Ron to keep her ex away from her, telling Ron that she doesn't like who she becomes when she's around Joe and even goes so far as to refer to him as the "male Tammy".

While at the school, Joe warmly greets Donna, who rebuffs him. Ron keeps an eye on Joe throughout the day and realizes that he is a genuinely kind and compassionate person. After Joe appears to share Ron's love of woodworking, Ron tells Donna to give Joe a second chance. Donna tells Ron that Joe is too boring for her, to which Ron tells her not to "confuse drama with happiness." Donna asks Joe out at the end of the episode.

Season 7[]

In "2017" Donna reveals to Leslie that she and Joe are engaged. In "Save JJ's", Joe and Donna are seen tasting wedding cakes at Tom's Bistro. The two marry in 2017, as seen in "Donna & Joe". In "One Last Ride," it is seen that Donna and Joe are shown to be happily married. However, Joe has lost his job, as schools decide to stop teaching Mathematics. Rather than go on another adventure together, Donna decides to use her wealth to set up a non-profit for Joe called "Teach Yo Self" enlisting the help of April in the process.
